Grade 304 is standard “18/8” stainless steel. Has excellent forming and welding performance characteristics. 304L grade, a low-carbon version of 304, does not require post-weld annealing and is widely used in heavy-duty components. Corrosion cracking occurs when exposed to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments and when subjected to stresses above approximately 50°C.
