COR-TEN weathering steel sheet, also known as ASTM A588 or A606 Type 4 plate, is a high-strength, low-alloy material used primarily in welded, riveted and bolted structures. This steel is primarily used in welded bridges and buildings where weight reduction or extended life is required.
A588 COR-TEN weathering steel sheet, which has good corrosion resistance, is mainly used in harsh environments, such as chemical, fertilizer, chemical fibre and other corrosive industries. Meanwhile, it has a long life, low maintenance cost, good mechanical properties and processability. This kind of steel plate is specially treated during the manufacturing process, which makes it able to adapt to various harsh environments, thus prolonging the service life of the equipment.
It can be divided into 4 grades: A588GrA, A588GrB, A588GrC, A588GrK. This steel is significantly better than carbon structural steel with or without copper in most environments in terms of resistance to atmospheric corrosion, and when fully exposed to the atmosphere, this steel is suitable for many occasions in the bare state, with the restriction that the thickness of the material is not greater than 200mm.
A606 COR-TEN is a low alloy structural steel with high strength and corrosion resistance, and its chemical composition mainly includes carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulphur, chromium, nickel, copper and other elements. The chromium and nickel elements in it can improve the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the steel. Meanwhile, copper is also one of the important alloying elements in A606COR-TEN weathering steel, which can promote the formation of oxide film and thus improve the corrosion resistance of steel.
A606COR-TEN steel plate is divided into two grades, namely A606GR50 and A606GR55. It is mainly used in bridges, construction, ships, chemical industry, etc., which requires better corrosion resistance and higher strength. This steel plate has been treated several times during the manufacturing process, and the surface has been polished or sandblasted to give it better corrosion resistance and appearance quality.
