ETP Electrolytic Tinplate Coil

ETP is a cold-rolled low-carbon steel coil or sheet coated with tin on both sides through a continuous electrolysis operation. When flowing and melting, a tin-iron layer is formed between the steel base and the matte tin layer. Electrolytic tinplate coils and sheets used for metal food packaging are thin steel sheets coated with tin coating through electrolytic deposition. The tinplate produced through this process is essentially a sandwich in which the central core is strip steel. The core is cleaned in an pickling solution and then passed through a bath containing an electrolyte with tin deposited on both sides. As the strip passes through a high-frequency electric induction coil, it is heated, causing the tin coating to melt and flow, forming a shiny coating. ETP Electrolytic Tinplate Coils can be of single reducer (SR) or double reducer (DR) type and are available in sheet and/or roll form. DR ETP is generally thinner but stronger than traditional SR ETP. DR ETP is produced by electrolytically tin-plating steel, which, after an initial cold rolling and annealing process, is followed by a second lubricated cold rolling process to provide additional strength to the double-rolled material. Quan Shuo Metal produces DR ETP in the DR08 (DR 550) grade with thicknesses ranging from 0.14 to 0.21 mm. Soft DR ETP is a double-thinning material with lower secondary cold deformation and a hardness of 65+4/-3 compared to regular DR ETP. Soft DR is available in thicknesses ranging from 0.18 to 0.23 mm. It has a brighter finish than SR ETP in the same thickness range and also offers a lighter option than T65 condition grade SR ETP.

    Introduction

Tin plating has a low melting point, has lubricating properties, and imparts a good appearance. Cans made of tinplate are easy to handle, dispose of, and store. ETP Electrolytic Tinplate Coil is primarily used for packaging food and beverages but is also used for containers of oils, greases, paints, powders, polishes, waxes, chemicals, and many other products. Aerosol containers, caps, and closures are also made of tin plates.
    By far the largest application for tinplate is packaging (food cans, beverage cans, aerosol cans, bottle caps), which is thought to account for around 90% of total tinplate production. Existing non-packaging applications cover multiple uses (electrical, automotive, household, and construction), although none of these individual uses represent large tonnage exports.     This specification covers single reduction electrolytic tinplate produced from low carbon cold rolled steel, supplied in coil and cut sizes, for use in the manufacture of cans, bottle caps, crowns, and other products. It is offered in commercial tin coat weight and usually with trimmed edges.
    This specification applies to orders in inch-pound units (such as A624) with nominal thicknesses from 0.0061 to 0.0149 inches, or SI units [such as A624M] with nominal thicknesses from 0.155 to 0.378 mm.
