Our coating system (PVDF) provides excellent weather resistance and significantly increases the thermal emissivity and solar reflectance (depending on color choice) of stainless steel. Our paint systems have been extensively tested at extreme temperatures to ensure they can withstand the harshest conditions. All coatings meet the requirements of the AAMA 2605.98 test procedure. We provide more information on bend, form, and scratch tests. PVDF is a material that retains most of its strength at temperatures as high as 280°F. In comparison, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has a maximum service temperature of only 140°F.
It is not uncommon for fluoropolymers to be highly resistant to acids and bases. However, these chemical resistances are usually not absolute. PVDF is resistant to most acids, bases, organic solvents, chlorine, bromine, and other halogen compounds.
PVDF has a tensile strength of approximately 50 MPa (7,251 psi). This makes the material quite strong compared to most other fluoropolymers. For example, polypropylene has a tensile strength of 33 MPa (4,800 psi). In other words, PVDF can hold about 1.5 times the load of polypropylene without failing. PVDF has a surface hardness of approximately 100 on the Rockwell “R” scale. This puts the material on the high end of semi-rigid coatings – only slightly harder than polypropylene. This makes the material flexible enough to absorb impact, yet stiff enough to prevent it from being easily scraped off during everyday wear and tear.
